Happy Holidays!

Happy holidays from SVF!

All of our members and guests are welcome at the SVF holiday party this Sunday, December 23rd, at 5:00 pm! It's a potluck, so feel free to bring food or treats to share. You can find a sign-up sheet for the potluck at the SVF front desk.

During the winter break, SVF will conduct a three-day clinic from Wednesday, December 26th through Friday the 28th. The clinic will focus on competitive bouting as well as footwork, conditioning, and and tactical drills for intermediate to advanced fencers.

The clinic runs from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm, and has a $180 fee. Regular SVF practices continue in the evenings and clinic fencers are encouraged to attend both the clinic hours and evening practices.

  • Congratulations and well done to Isabel Wei, who took home SVF's first medal of the 2012 Summer Nationals--Gold in Division 3! The result earned Isabel her C2012 rating. Isabel also posted a top-16 finish in Y14 women's foil, bravely fencing on despite a knee injury in the round of 32 that rendered her unable to advance or retreat. Well done, Isabel, and we wish you a speedy recovery.
  • Taylor Chin won SVF's second medal of SN 2012, with a silver in Division 1A women's foil! Taylor's result netted her an A2012 rating. Taylor also made the podium in Cadet Women's Foil, taking 5th place. Nice job, Taylor!
  • SVF's men's foil team (Robbie Moore, Michael Schwiebert, Nalin Desai, and Devin Donnelly) took the silver medal in the Senior Team Men's Foil event on July 4th! In the round of 16, Nalin Desai rescued the team from an early scare against San Francisco Fencers' Club with an amazing 15-3 run in the seventh relay. From there, the second-seeded SVF team posted solid victories over Mission FC and Denver Fencing Academy, before falling to top-seeded Salle Mauro in a hard-fought, 45-43 defeat. Thanks, everybody, for all their support during a fun and exciting run!
  • Also on July 4th, Brian Park and Ashton Daniel made podium finishes in the Y10 Boys' Foil event! Brian was third, and Ashton was 8th. Well done, boys!
