SVF fencers competed this past weekend in Salt Lake City for the Junior Olympics, and had several great results!
Jeffrey Chen overcame a pulled muscle to take home the silver medal in Cadet Men's Foil, in a day that included three overtime victories. Congratulations, Jeffrey! Great job. Taylor Chin also made a strong finish in Junior Women's Foil, making the round of 16 to finish 14th. Henry Walter also had a great result, earning Junior national points for the first time by finishing in the top-32 (27th) in Junior Men's Foil. SVF alum and Ohio State University fencer Robbie Moore (23rd) also finished in the top-32.
SVF fencer Jeffrey Chen made another strong finish on the European Cadet Circuit, placing 12th at the event last weekend in Pisa, Italy! Great job, Jeffrey. Taylor Chin also fenced in the women's foil event, placing 84th. More information on the ECC event here: http://www.eurofencing.info
Also, Rafael Vinluan earned a C2012 rating with a bronze medal finish in this Sunday's Junior Men's Foil Bay Cup; nice job! Thomas Chen took 6th place, Sidarth Kumbla was 19th and Darius Goh 19th. Full results from yesterday's Bay Cup competition here.

This past weekend, SVF fencers braved the cold, rain, and snow of Portland, Oregon to compete in the Division 1 and Junior foil events at NAC D. Jeffrey Chen earned the highest finish for an SVF fencer, with an outstanding top-16 result in Division 1 Men's Foil. Congratulations, Jeffrey! Taylor Chin and SVF alum Robbie Moore also had points finishes, earning top-32 results in their respective Junior foil events. Jeffrey also finished in the top-32 of Junior. Great job, guys!

Congratulations our SVF foilists who qualified for the Junior Olympic Fencing Championships at the regional qualifying event this weekend! Henry Walter and Michael Schwiebert earned junior spots, finishing 1st and 2nd in Junior Men's Foil. Michael Li was 1st in the Cadet Men's Foil qualifier.
In women's foil, Isabel Wei qualified for Junior Women's Foil with a 2nd place finish, while Bella Kang and Olivia Xu claimed cadet spots by placing 1st and 2nd in the Cadet Women's Foil qualifier.
It was a great weekend for some of SVF's youngest competitors! In the Y10 Boys' Foil Bay Cup in San Carlos, Ashton Daniel, Cole Johnson and Ethan Knight combined to take gold, silver, and bronze medals in a field of 32 participants.
In the 42-person Y12 event, Geoffrey Tourette and Blake Broszus claimed gold and bronze, respectively. Andrew Tran, Nihar Mitra, and Drew Wadsworth also finished in the top-8.
