SVF at the Richmond Youth NAC

Congratulations to SVF's Y14 Boys' Foilists, who made a couple of great showings at the Richmond NAC this past weekend! Sidarth Kumbla took the silver medal in the Y14 individual event, while Geoffrey Tourette won bronze and Michael Li finished 12th.

In the Y14 MF team event, Sidarth, Michael, Geoffrey, and Blake Broszus took second place, falling 45-44 in the final bout despite an impressive nine-touch comeback by Sidarth in the anchor bout.

In the Y12 event, both Ashton Daniel and Blake finished in the top-16.

Great job this weekend, boys!

Peninsula RYC Results

SVF's fencers did a great job at the Peninsula RYC on March 24th and 25th! Sky Tian and Andrew Tran had SVF's highest finishes, taking gold and silver in the Y12 boys' foil event. Other top-8 medalists included:

SVF's Summer National Qualifiers

This weekend, SVF qualified nine fencers for events at the Summer National Championships in Columbus, Ohio! In the Y14 qualifiers, Trevor Filseth took gold in the men's foil event, with Nathan Jeon taking bronze. Ashton Daniel and Sky Tian also qualified with top-8 finishes. Andrea Daniel won bronze and qualified in the Y14 women's event.

In the Division 2 and 3 qualifiers, Rafael Vinluan won gold and Aaron Ong took bronze! Rafael qualified for Division 2, while Aaron earned spots in both Division 2 and 3. Trevor Filseth's 4th place was good for a Division 3 qualifying spot.

Reno NAC Results

Congratulations to SVF's Sidarth Kumbla, bronze medalist in the Division II men's foil event in Reno, Nevada! Sidarth's 3rd place result earned him a B2013 classification. Aaron Ong finished 12th, earning a D13. Rafael Vinluan and Jonathan Hong were 35th and 41st, respectively, in a field of 95 competitors.

In the Division III event, Jonathan Hong was SVF's highest finisher, at 10th place. Aaron Ong was 35th of the 94 competitors.

Congratulations to Sidarth and well done to all of SVF's fencers who made the trip!

February Bay Cup Results

Congratulations to SVF's Y12 boys for a great showing this weekend in San Francisco! Blake Broszus won the Y12 Boys' Foil event at Golden Gate Fencing Center, topping a field of 37 fencers for the gold. Nathan Jeon came third for bronze, and Ashton Daniel made the top 8 (5th). All three boys upgraded their classifications for 2013: Blake earned a C, Nathan earned a D, and Ashton earned an E (his first rating!)

Great job to all of our boys this weekend.

SVF at Junior Olympics

Congratulations to SVF fencer Taylor Chin, who made her highest-ever finish in the Junior category! Taylor was 6th at the Junior Olympics in Baltimore, MD. Great job, Taylor.

Notable Results from January NAC

Congratulations to Geoffrey Tourette and Taylor Chin, both of whom made the top 16 in Junior foil at the North American Cup in Louisville, Kentucky! Geoffrey was 15th in the Junior Men's Foil, and Taylor was 13th in Junior Women's. Great job to both kids!

Happy holidays from SVF!

All of our members and guests are welcome at the SVF holiday party this Sunday, December 23rd, at 5:00 pm! It's a potluck, so feel free to bring food or treats to share. You can find a sign-up sheet for the potluck at the SVF front desk.

During the winter break, SVF will conduct a three-day clinic from Wednesday, December 26th through Friday the 28th. The clinic will focus on competitive bouting as well as footwork, conditioning, and and tactical drills for intermediate to advanced fencers.

The clinic runs from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm, and has a $180 fee. Regular SVF practices continue in the evenings and clinic fencers are encouraged to attend both the clinic hours and evening practices.
